Though you might think that your pearly whites are invincible tools that can achieve any task, we beg to differ. At Arden Dental Group, we’ve seen enough patients understand that using your chompers for anything other than eating food can result in hurt or lost teeth and oral emergencies. Watch out for the following things and guard your chompers with a small bit of defensive effort:
Playing contact sports without a mouthguard. Football, wrestling, and lacrosse can be exciting, but chest pads aren’t the only protective gear you should be wearing while playing. Without a mouthguard, playing these sports can do serious harm to your teeth. Make sure you’re wearing a great mouthguard before participating in any contact sports.
Wearing mouth jewelry. Mouth jewelry such as lip rings or tongue piercings can cause split or chipped teeth if you’re not watchful while eating or speaking. If you wear mouth jewelry, consider removing it (at the very least) during your meal sessions; we don’t want you to suffer the uneasiness of a chipped tooth!
Opening things with your mouth. The desire to open things with your pearly whites can be strong, but we kindly ask that you exercise a little patience! The time you save opening a package or a soda bottle is not worth the time you’ll spend fixing broken teeth. Be patient and wait until you can find the proper tool for the job.
If you have hurt your teeth, we can help! Oral bonding, fillings, crowns, and veneers can help make your mouth look like new. Give us a call at 828-684-9260 to schedule a checkup with our Arden, North Carolina staff. Dr. Joseph Younger and the team at Arden Dental Group will be pleased to see you.
